Josephine Lazarus began studying yoga in 1972 and has been teaching for 25 years. Josie is the owner of Archana Yoga in Gilbert AZ

since 1996 with her husband of 33 years, sanskritist Max Heckard.

Josie has been an Iyengar certified instructor since 1993. She has

devoted most of her adult life to the study, practice and communication of yoga. Her mission is to share the joy and trials of the path with her students, using her personal practice as a touchstone. Josie studied with teachers of various modalities before she settled with Iyengar Yoga in the mid -80's. She studied in India six times at the Iyengar Institute in Pune, India with the Iyengar family and has also studied with the Iyengars in the USA & Canada. A student of the YOGA SUTRAS of Patanjali, the MAHABHARATA and other great Indian & Asian texts, she grounds her physical practice with cognitive understanding and compassion.

Sirsasana is often described as the king of poses. For many of us it is quite a hike to get there. Explore the transitions from standing as a mountain (tadasana) to the inverted mountain, headstand (sirsasana), using the principles of the Iyengar method in a safe and playful environment.  Moving from earth to air and back again, experience the element of akasha, space, as created in every aspect of these asanas. Release tensions and blockages safely by using a progressive  approach in the ascent and descent along this mountain path. This class is appropriate for those students who are experienced in inverted poses and those students who are new to them. Some blankets provided or bring your own. Students with issues relating to full weight bearing inversion need not be concerned. They will be accommodated with poses that provide an excellent alternative.
